SCCA: First Sub-2 Minute Lap to Be Recognized at Road America

Chicago Region Sports Car Club of America has announced it will award the first club racer to lap the famous Road America road course in less than two minutes with a permanent plaque and a charitable contribution.

A sub-two minute lap with an average speed of 121.440 at the four-mile circuit has never been done by a SCCA club racer in the track’s 56-year history. The record can be officially recorded at the June Sprints National, Kettle Moraine Regional, Cat National, Susie Bonneau Regional or SCCA National Championship Runoffs.

The first to do so will receive an award from the Chicago Region, and the region will make a $1,000 donation to the SCCA Foundation in the driver’s name. A duplicate of the award will be put on display in the Road America administrative offices.

In 2001, the Chicago Region established in one of the most sought after awards in auto racing, “The Chicago Region Triple Crown.” In 10 years, 27 winners have won their class race at the June Sprints, a Divisional title, and the National Championship Runoffs title in the same season to claim the award.

The SCCA National Championship Runoffs for 2011 will be contested at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., on September 22-25, 2011
