Prototype Lites: Title Fight Resumes in Utah

The road course at Miller Motorsports Park will come to life this weekend (April 28-29) with the high speeds and roaring engines of the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda cars at the Utah Grand Prix.

Though the Prototype Lites championship was developed as a companion series to the American Le Mans Series, one of the premier prototype and GT endurance racing series in the world, the sleek and stylish cars provide action-packed stand-alone events.

In the second of seven stops on the 2012 calendar, the Utah Grand Prix witnesses 16 year-old rookie driver Tristan Nunez trying to defend the two overall Lites wins he scored at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March. Nunez, a Boca Raton, Fla., native, won both Prototype Lites races with the Performance Tech Motorsports. In addition, Scott Tucker of Level 5 Motorsports will also be on hand to defend both of his L2 wins at Sebring.

In total, 12 different drivers from the U.S. and Canada will compete at the Utah Grand Prix. Five other racing series will also be in attendance, including IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama, Pirelli World Challenge, Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA West, Pacific F2000/FF and NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.

The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda on-track action commences on Thursday (April 26) with two test sessions on the Outer Course. Friday (April 27) features two practice runs, while the lone qualifying session takes place Saturday morning (April 28). Round Three is slated for 10:40 a.m. local time on Sunday morning (April 29), followed by Round Four at 2:15 p.m.

The top-three will be posted following every session on the ESR Facebook page and ESR Twitter page.
