| Prototype Lites: Title Chase Resumes at Laguna Seca |
Some of the sounds coming from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend (May 11-12) during the American Le Mans Series Montery presented by Patrón will in fact be Mazdas, as the Cooper Tires Prototypes Lites Powered by Mazda Series will feature two action-packed races on the historic and scenic 2.238-mile road course.
The growing series may have been initially developed by the International Motor Sports Association to accompany the American Le Mans Series presented by Patrón, the premier prototype and GT enduring racing series, however, Prototype Lites races produces enough power and competition to stand out within the racing community.
Making the most noise during the 2012 Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda Series so far has been 16 year-old rookie driver Tristan Nunez. The Floridian has won three of the four races this season and will seek to continue his winning ways in California. He and his Performance Tech team won the two races that were part of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March and most recently won the second race during the Utah Grand Prix at Miller Motorsports Park.
Stealing some thunder from Nunez is Russian-Canadian newcomer Mikhail Goikhberg, who won the first feature race at the Utah Grand Prix, and he and his JDC MotorSports entry have every intention of carrying their current series points lead forward while vying for the top spot on the podium.
Defending L2 team champion 6th Gear Racing returns to the winding elevation changes of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to challenge current L2 points leader Alan Wilzig in a fight for the 2012 championship, with Max DeAngelis and Michael Chumecky manning the helm of their L2 cars.
Danny Mancini and Richie Holt, who produced an amazing battle at Miller Motorsports Park for the podium under the Performance Tech Motorsports banner, will continue their heated inter-squad Masters points shoot out as well.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is located on California’s beautiful central coast. The world famous track has 11 turns, including the Corkscrew, a 59-foot drop between turn eight and turn eight A. This drop is a 5˝ - story plunge in only 450 feet. In total between turns eight and nine, the elevation drops nearly 10 stories.
When practice starts, 17 drivers and nine different teams representing the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda Series will be in the paddock.
The top-three will be posted following every session on the ESR Facebook page and ESR Twitter page. |
